Torre del Lago, Sept. 2, 2018 - Here where plants and vegetables used to be grown, now marijuana flourishes. There are many companies in Viareggio, Torre del Lago and the hinterland that have started growing hemp with inflorescences with Thc, the active ingredient, that does not exceed legal limits. A little bit of everything is produced there: from seedlings to oils, cosmetics to clothing, and even beer and a liquor. The industry, as evidenced by the opening of many specialized stores in town, is pulling, and among the greenhouses it is not difficult to come across the rock-mythologized leaves and T-shirts that are turning Versilia into a small Cannabis Valley. In Torre del Lago, at the Carmazzi company, known for its chili peppers and edible flowers, production has begun in collaboration with the University of Pisa. "We process a plant that is below 0.2 Thc," Giacomo Carmazzi explains, "with the advice of technologist Matteo Iannone, who is in charge of food processing. Together with the laboratory "Vapori di birra" we created the hemp beer and with the "Liquorificio Taccola" of Pisa the digestive, whose scent is reminiscent of that of the plant. The goal is to bring the culture of hemp, in a modern key, to the food sector especially beverage." The beer comes in 33 cl bottles, has 5 degrees alcohol and is sold at Carmazzi's for 5 euros. The liqueur, 28 proof, is being launched. Both products were presented at Lumière di and Peperoncino Day. Other inland businesses are growing marijuana to sell the inflorescences, and several wholesalers market the potted seedlings. Specialized stores are flourishing in the city: the first was Cannabis 4.20 on Rosmini Street, then several opened, including the well-stocked Mondo Canapa on San Martino Street and Cannabis Store Amsterdam on Battisti Street, which is open until 11 p.m. on Saturdays. You can find foods (from coffee to pasta to cookies), oils, flours, creams, tablets, cosmetics, clothing, bags and gift ideas. There are also those who offer home delivery such as the Smo-king tobacco shop in Bozzano, and there is a 24-hour vending machine on Regia Street. Soon to open on Marco Polo Street is "Green Day," from the producer (of Migliarina) directly to the consumer. Published Sept. 2, 2018 in The Nation by Dario Pecchia >> Link to article
