Ornithogallus is a bulbous plant in the Hyacinthaceae family, native to North America, Asia and Europe, also called "Star of Bethlehem." Fleshy, leathery green fleshy lanceolate basal leaves originate from the tough tuberous root. The erect stems have characteristic inflorescences that in bud resemble a rooster's crest; the flowers, usually star-shaped, about 40 cm tall, are clustered in panicles usually orange or yellow in color.
