Petunias are particularly noted for the beauty of their flowers and can also be grown effectively in pots. The genus Petunia includes 40 species of herbaceous, annual or perennial plants, mostly native to South America. They develop large, densely branched shrubs, 25-60 cm tall, and often have prostrate or drooping stems. The light green leaves are covered with a very fine down, are slightly sticky to the touch, and give off a characteristic scent. The flowers, which are solitary and supported by terminal or axillary peduncles, show the full range of colors, from white to purple to blue. The tubular portion of the corolla is almost straight, while its margin is broad and pentalobed. Flowering, which is very abundant, lasts from mid-spring to mid-autumn.

THE CONTAINER CONSISTS OF 6 POTTED SEEDLINGS WITH A DIAMETER OF 14 CM, THE FLOWERS ARE NOT EDIBLE.

FLOWERING

Petunia flowering is very abundant and lasts from mid-spring to mid-autumn.

TEMPERATURE

Petunias are semirustic plants that love temperate and warm climates. However, they also withstand low temperatures very well as long as they do not fall below freezing.

SOIL

for optimal development they need soil rich in organic matter, fresh and deep: use a good universal potting soil mixed possibly with finely shredded bark and a little sand to increase drainage.

CONCESSION

From May to September, every 15 to 20 days, feed Petunia with flowering plant fertilizer mixed with watering water.

EXPOSURE

ideal location is in full sun but in a place fairly sheltered from strong winds.

IRRIGATION

In need of a lot of water, they can withstand a few hours of drought but tend to wilt quickly should it be prolonged. It is therefore advisable to water regularly, every 2-3 days, intensifying the procedure during the summer months. Avoid stagnation and wait for the potting soil to dry between waterings.
